Literature Text

Logic is my vice and I try to break from it each day
But I relapse, now my humanity is withering away
Chemicals control my thoughts, neurons are firing off in lines
It's because of this I can travel at the speed of wasted time
I see the world around degrading into stone
Am I the only one who has no true sense of home?
Flowing into cycles belongings flung through disarray
My breath is only here because I survived my personal hurricane

I was told that poetry is supposed unleash feelings
But I find myself separated from the world I'm breathing
The air is getting thicker and my ichor getting hot
My cold heart's pumping molten iron it's leaking through the slots
Of my face exposed so cool, calm, and collected
I gave up my emotions so I could appear objective
Because the cost of integrity is to dissociate your being
While I watch the world shout to the wind in heated zephyr screams

If the wind stopped
Would anyone know
Would we be too busy
In our self-pity show
If the wind stopped
It's anybody's guess
But I will fight the static storms
Before I'm laid to rest

He's stealing all your oxygen and you exhale in his face
She's lighting all those cigarettes, you scoff and drink away
I have trouble sleeping, you're up telling me to not to be awake
I tell off hypocrites, then I make the same mistakes
I tried to delve deep to understand the human condition
But the free fall left me bored so here is my rendition
I could tell you materialism sucks but what will it do?
Absolutely nothing because we already know it's true

People ask me if I was always like this
Then they act like it's a tragedy when I answer “yes”
But I'd rather stay true to myself than live behind a scheme
While I watch the world shout to the wind in heated zephyr screams
This was written in response to someone who told me I put "too much brain, and not enough heart" in my poems and songs...

That person might be right, but someone's got to take the mantle.
